What is DTM?
DTM (Desk Top Music) generally refers to creating music on a computer.
Apparently it can even be made to some extent on a smartphone.
DTM uses dedicated software (applications).
You may often use one of the following brands, or a combination of several.
- Cubase
- Pro Tools
- Logic
- GarageBand
Of the above, only GarageBand is available for free.
I create MIDI using ABILITY (formerly SingerSongWriter), mix it with live sound, and finish it using Pro Tools.
DTM costs a certain amount of money, so I recommend starting out as cheaply as possible.

In the case of DTM software (app), a piano-like sound is played by default.
Let’s loop it around BPM=120.
Something like a melody may come to mind.
It might be a good idea to try a “ballad” around BPM70 to BPM80.
