Guitar course for beginners

Do I need to know how to read music to play the guitar? There are probably many people who think so. Music scores are a common language between players.

Is it true that 90% of guitar beginners quit? Why did they have to give up the guitar?So, why are 10% of beginners able to continue playing the guitar?
