I want to play a guitar solo soon! So, this is a project for those who are practicing their favorite guitarist’s phrases.
Guitar fingerings are different from piano fingerings.
This is not a must-do exercise.
Let’s try “Chromatic Pattern 2”, a guitar fingering exercise, while being careful about wrist fatigue.
Guitar fingering practice “Chromatic Pattern 2”
Just like the previous “Chromatic Pattern 1“, this is not a very interesting fingering exercise.
Be sure to play along with a metronome.
The score is set at 80 BPM, but it would be a good idea to gradually increase the tempo.
By the time you can play at around 120 BPM, you may be thinking, “Wow, my finger movements are amazing!”
Middle finger start pattern #1
As usual, the picking is alternate picking.
*Picking that repeats down ⇒ up
- 1st fret ⇒ index finger
- 2nd fret ⇒ middle finger
- 3rd fret ⇒ Ring finger
- 4th fret ⇒ little finger
This puts stress on your left wrist (or right wrist for left-handed people), so be sure to take a break in between.
For example, after playing the index finger pattern #1 to #6, you can take a break and rest your wrist.
The trick to practicing guitar fingering is to take your time and don’t rush.

Summary
So far, I have explained the guitar fingering exercise “Chromatic Pattern 2”.
I wouldn’t say it’s a fun practice, but I’m sure that as you continue with it, things will change for the better.
We recommend practicing fingerings in parallel with practicing songs and phrases.
